Chris Cvitanov, 38, right, of Citrus Heights hugs Capt. Rick Edgar in Roseville, Calif. on Thursday, March 21, 2013 as he thanks the firefighters for rescuing him after his near-death car accident in 2005.
In the months after the terrible car accident that burned the lower half of his body and caused the amputation of one of his legs, Cvitanov wanted to die. But he has come a long way, physically and emotionally, since then. Today he is an active volunteer with the Firefighters Burn Institute, helping others cope with the aftermath of their injuries.
